Single mums and donors: when to tell the child the donor’s identity?
Hi all single mums and known donors: when have you/will you tell the child the donor’s identity?
My potential donor and I are in disagreement about when the child should find out his identity. He wants to occasionally meet the child, which I’m happy about. However, if he does meet the child, I want the child to know that he is the child’s donor from birth, so it doesn’t come as a chock later. My donor wants the child to find out he is the donor when the child is 16, so the child doesn’t develop attachment to the donor, thinking it is the child’s father and not understanding the difference between father and donor.
We are both interested in what is best for the child, but disagree about what that is.
Have you got an agreement with your donor/receiver about when the child will find out the donor’s identity, if the donor occasionally meets the child? How did it go if you did tell the child yet?
Many regards
