Award-winning Canadian Director Seeks Interviews
Award-winning Canadian feature film director and cinematographer seeks interviews with women of colour seeking white sperm donors for documentary film and international television special about the diversity of skin tones around the world.
In this large scale documentary, director and master cinematographer Vic Sarin of Sepia Films travels from his home in North America to India, Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and beyond in search of various perspectives on skin tone in the hopes of understanding different cultures perceptions of beauty while also sharing his own experience and that of his mixed race family. An intimate-yet-global portrait of difference painted by one of the world’s master cinematographers, Hue is a compelling meditation on skin colour that’s anything but black and white.
Although this program will have the highest production values, the interview itself will be a simple, casual conversation with Mr. Sarin – one that will be featured alongside a select cast of internationally renowned thinkers, writers, actors, everyday people and cultural icons – everyone from Oscar-winning actor Lou Gossett Jr. to Chinese supermodel, Du Juan, and the Wodaabe, a tribe of West African nomads, among many others.
As one of Canada’s most celebrated directors and cinematographers, Vic Sarin has been honoured with numerous national and international accolades, including multiple Emmy nominations, Genie awards (Canada’s Academy Awards), and, in 2010, the prestigious Kodak Lifetime Achievement Award “for outstanding contribution to the art of cinematography.” With more than 100 feature films, documentaries and television movies to his credit, Mr. Sarin has interviewed and worked with a diverse group of people and high profile personalities from Oscar-nominated actors, such as Helena Bonham Carter, to international dignitaries, the Dalai Lama and Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, among many others. Mr. Sarin’s most recent films include the celebrated theatrical feature, Partition, a love story set amidst the turmoil at the end of British rule in India featuring Neve Campbell and Jimi Mistry, and the multiple-award-winning, magical family drama, A Shine of Rainbows, starring Aidan Quinn.
This program, titled Hue, is produced by Sepia Films in cooperation with The National Film Board and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Documentary Channel. As such, the film is to reach a large audience through a Canadian theatrical release, followed by the international film festival circuit and repeated broadcasts on leading television networks in dozens of countries worldwide.
